Tomorrow is Alex Quiros' birthday (Ramses' dad) y por eso (for this reason) it's time to festejar (party)! We got to spend Friday night at la casa de Ramses' abuela (grandma) who has 10 children and 27 grandchildren! There were a lot of other family members there, but of course not the entire family. I'm not sure if that many people could all fit in the house. We got to eat a delicious rice dish and meet the family. It was a great time.
We (Ramses, Roma, Natalie, and I) ended the night by visiting La Discoteca Miraflores: a bar/dance club owned by one of Ramses' cousins. And it was karaoke night, score! After drinking some liquid courage Natalie and I decided we should sing a karaoke song too... Note to self: next time I'm in a Tico karaoke bar, just sing Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler. After pestering the DJ and asking for American karaoke classics only to find that he did not have them, we finally just settled on All My Loving by The Beatles. We could not compete with the other Ticos in that bar. They were all singing songs in Spanish that everyone else in the bar knew and loved. One of those songs included Eclipse Total del Corazon by Bonnie Tyler. Yes there is a Spanish version and it was sung twice that night! Moral of the story is: I need to learn more Tico songs so that next time I'm prepared.
Upstairs we peeked into the dance club and everyone was dancing salsa! I was like a fish out of water and out of my element. I just asked Ramses to teach me something and clumsily followed his footsteps and just let him spin me around. Moral of the story is: I need to take some salsa lessons. We ended the night back at home by 3 am. Woo what a night.
