Want to guess what time I woke up this morning? Just guess... I woke up at 3:45 A.M. But it was for good reason. Natalie and I had a 5 AM bus to catch back to the Caribbean (Limon) to go check out Tortuguero. The bus was actually pretty comfortable and I slept most of the ride. After arriving in Limon we then took a taxi to Puerto Moin in order to catch a boat to Tortuguero at 10 AM. The boat ride was awesome! I got a lot of great pics!
Spider Monkeys!
Thought there weren't any farm animals in the Caribbean? You thought wrong.
They just graze on a little island.
Crikey! There are crocs here! (cocodrillos)
We got closer
And closer until it snapped its jaws and scurried into the river!
Some howler monkeys in the trees (mono congos)
Why did the cow cross the river?
Well I don't know. Because they've got places to be!
After the five-hour boat ride we finally arrived in Tortuguero and met our guide Barbara Hartung. Through Barbara we got boat transportation, two nights at Miss Miriams, free breakfast, a canal tour, and a turtle tour for $160. It sounds a little steep but it's cheaper than a lot of other packages out there! Barbara is a German biologist that has been living in Tortuguero for 20 years and although she's a little on the quirky side, she is very good at her job! Once we arrived she showed us a little bit of the town and then to our cabina. It was a simple bedroom with 3 twin beds, a Bob Marley poster, and a bathroom, but we didn't need much more. They even had wi-fi outside.
After settling into our room we went to go check out the town. The "downtown" mainly consists of maybe 10 blocks of a road but it's very cute and charming. We stopped for either a very late lunch or a very early dinner at Cafe Buddha. This place has got it going on. You can sit outside on the river and eat delicious Italian cuisine. Natalie ordered the vegetarian pizza (really good) and I ordered the lasagna made with crepes (also reallllly good). We also got to order our first beers in a restaurant woohoo! Natalie ordered the classic Imperial (Costa Rica's most iconic beer) and I ordered the Pilsen. These were really the only two options we had but they're not bad not bad at all. After filling our bellies with delicious food we returned to our cabina to relax and get some rest.
